On Line Video Counselling
Digital Counselling
Therapy has always been the meeting of the therapist and client face-to face within a room. However, for clients this often means finding time in a hectic life for appointments. It can mean having to arrange childcare or time off work while having to accommodate for travel time to and from appointments. Compared to face to face counselling it offers a higher level of accessibility as we can meet anywhere from the comfort of your home or wherever it is that you are.
Who is likely to find online counselling beneficial?
- Housebound and/or disabled individuals, chronic illness etc.
- Carers unable to take a break, even for a short time
- Parents who look after their young children at home.
- Busy people who travel frequently
- If you are busy and struggle to commit to a 50 minute appointment.
- People who are not able to commit to face-to-face appointments.
- People living in rural and geographically remote areas.
- If you need a counselling session during your lunch hour
- People who have self isolated due to the CoronaVirus
- People who find it difficult to leave home because of social anxiety and agrophobia
there is evidence to suggest that it is as effective as face-to-face, and
therefore makes therapy accessible to many more people.
Video Call
I am offering online video counselling using Zoom. This would allow for me to offer you a counselling session in your real time. Should you choose this option I will send you an email with a link to join the therapy session. This type of counselling is the most similar to face to face therapy in that you meet in a webcam (camera) on your computer, phone or device.
What you will need:
- A confidential space where you can talk and won’t be Interrupted
- A device that can be connected to the internet and a webcam
- To provide your personal details including your address and GP information. This might be needed in the case of an emergency
Do I need to be computer literate to have online counselling?
While individuals considering the option of online counselling will need some basic computer skills, you don’t need to be a tech-genius to make video counselling work for you. I will be able to offer you guidance to provide you with a simple approach to get started.
What happens next?
Please contact me via my contact form to arrange an initial consultation. Together we will plan a suitable time for sessions and discuss why you are seeking counselling.
During your initial consultation we can check that everything is working correctly and that you feel comfortable receiving counselling in this way. This is also your opportunity to get to know me and ensure that you are happy with my style of working. During sessions, ensure you are in a comfortable position and in a room where you won’t be disturbed.
I will send you an email which will have attached an intake form to be completed, a copy of my GDPR (data protection) which I request you read, sign and return plus a copy of my working agreement. Once I have received those back along with payment we can schedule your first appointment.
How much is the session?
Each session is £55. This should be paid for prior to each session and payment can be made by PayPal or bank transfer.
How long is the session for?
Each session is for approximately 50 minutes to an hour.
Are you qualified to work online?
Yes. Since March 2020 I have completed an 80 hour certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling that complies with the BACP ethical framework.
While some experts believe the efficacy of online and telephone counselling is not as strong as face to face, there is mounting evidence to suggest that the outcome of these methods is at least equal to the effects of traditional counselling. Leading medical journal The Lancet, previously published a study validating claims that online cognitive behavioural therapy is just as effective in treating depression as traditional therapy. In addition, telephone counselling has also been recognised an effective treatment for depression.
